An article on InternetNews quotes Andi Gutmans (one of the founders of PHP) as stating that they have no intention of moving their license to the GPL in the wake of a recent dispute over the use of PHP with MySQL. The issue stems from a recent change by the MySQL crew from the LGPL (Lesser GPL) license to the full GPL license, which has made linking to non-GPL libraries and software much more difficult (from a legal perspective). The folks at MySQL have been trying to work around this problem for months and are expecting a new change to be forthcoming in the license for the next release.
