The ninth Nimitz class aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, will be dedicated today at 11am in a ceremony at the Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia.
The carrier will be the penultimate Nimitz-class carrier (the final one being the USS George H W Bush) to be built, with the Navy moving to the more modern CVNX program ships, which will have advanced propulsion systems and are aimed at reducing manpower requirements by 30%. Of course, they'll also cost one and a half times as much (almost $12B instead of $4.5-5B).
