According to an article from CNet, Toshiba has released the P25, a portable computer with 17" of screen and 9.1 pounds of weight.
Although using basically the same screen as the Apple 17" PowerBook, the computer weighs in at 50% more weight.
Basic stats are:
- 2.8GHz Pentium 4 CPU (not a portable CPU)
- 512MB PC2100 SDRAM
- GeForce FX go5200 (32MB)
- 4 USB, 1 FireWire
- DVD-R/W
- 60GB HD
- 802.11a/b WiFi networking
- 10/100 Ethernet
- $2099 price
For a true desktop replacement, it may well be a good choice, but the 32MB video card is a bit of a disappointment. I would expect 64MB on a machine that is being touted as a "multimedia device."
Battery life is a bit disappointing as well, at 2.0 hours (according to VeriTest, the company slammed about the Apple G5 benchmarks), but you can put 2 batteries in it (at 1.5lbs each).
