According to an article from CNET, Intel has revealed a new problem with their Itanium 2 processor.
Under certain conditions, affected processors can act erratically. Intel claims to have a program that can be used to detect the defective chips.
The "solution" proposed by Intel is to run the CPUs at lower speeds, but the say they will change out the CPUs if the customer believes that is the right way to handle the problem.
A number of manufacturers, including IBM have decided to stop shipment of new products until the problem can be vetted.
