HBO and its networks convert to digital programming

An article from CNet talks about HBO Networks decision to move to a digital broadcasting system starting later this month.

Perhaps more importantly is the use of Sun hardware as the platform for this. In the days of Microsoft touting their media solutions, it is important that we continue to see at least some of the media outlets using systems form other providers.

Unfortunately, it is meaningless in the DRM equation, because this programming will all go direct to satellite for transmission and not to homes.

The system is running on Sun's Sun Fire 6800 servers and 9980 storage systems, with an array starting at 5TB and going to 50TB.
