Forensic expert believes TV shows may jeopardize justice

In an article from the Scotsman, Dr. Susan Black opines that the growth in television shows like CSI and Silent Witness are jeopardizing justice by making jury expectations unrealistic.

Not only does she contend that the popularity of the "sexed up" forensic techniques will establish expectations in juries that are unachievable, but she also claims that the dearth of certifications for forensic techniques (such as facial reconstruction) leads to sloppy science which may be making the problem worse.

In order to fight this, Dr. Black intends to establish degree granting programs at Dundee University (the first such programs in the UK)
