DRM is a crime against humanity

A provocative article in Wired goes just a little bit too far in claiming that Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a "crime against humanity", but argues reasonably that the perfect enforcement brought by the proposals and technologies being pushed by the content owners would materially change the way people work.

The author provides some apt analogies to real-world, non-DRM situations where perfect enforcement would be problematic.

It provides an interesting opportunity to think about how our laws would need to be changed on every subject if we could assume that they would always be followed to the letter. Perhaps we would need to install many more loopholes or remove the laws altogether because they would become much too restrictive.
