Users of AT&T Wireless mobile telephone services have a new way to get information on their cell phones.
The new TXT-411 service provides "411" information services via SMS messages (text messaging) for $0.40 per request, which is about a third of the cost of using the voice 411 service.
There are quite a lot of features, detailed in the instructions, but here is a quick summary:If you have AT&T Wireless and you want to try it out, send a message of the form ".." to number 2411.
So, for John Smith in Washington, you would send ".Smith John.Washington".
They are also offering step-by-step driving instructions for $0.50.
Somebody with AT&T service is going to have to try this out and then leave comments here about it.
